Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, November 23, 2009.
Drier weather will return to much of the West on Monday as a building ridge of high pressure replaces the eastern Pacific storm from yesterday. Ridging over the region and offshore winds will instigate a gradual warming trend in California and areas of the Pacific Northwest, allowing temperatures to warm nicely through the upcoming holiday. Meanwhile, the northern coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest will receive another dose of rain and snow as a disturbance grazes the area. Precipitation across this region will be limited due to strengthening high pressure.
As high pressure builds into the West, the aforementioned Pacific storm will move into the Central Plains on Monday. Moisture and cool air wrapping around the system may kick up light to moderate rain and wet snow showers in the Central Plains and the Upper Mississippi Valley.
In the East, low pressure developing just off the South Carolina coast will produce unsettling weather as it rides up the eastern shoreline. Onshore flow will fuel areas of rainfall and isolated thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic and areas of the Northeast throughout the day.
Fairly quiet weather conditions are expected elsewhere.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of -1 degrees at Big Piney, Wyom. to a high of 85 degrees at Miami, Florida.

Is more CO2 beneficial for Earth's ecosystems?
Posted: 10:47 AM EST on November 20, 2009
We should emit as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as possible and oppose efforts to regulate CO2 emissions, because more CO2 is good for the Earth. That's the take-home message of an audacious TV ad that was run this fall by the advocacy group, Read This Blog Entry

Today in 1982 marked the end of Hawaii's 23-year streak of dodging hurricanes. Hurricane Iwa engulfed the islands of Niah, Kauai, and Oahu with 130 mph wind gusts and sustained winds of 100 mph. It was the first hurricane to hit Hawaii since Hurricane Dot in 1959.
